I twist paper images, discarded objects and organic matter together to create surrealistic visual landscapes. I am primarily self-taught, and work in a variety of mediums, including sewing, painting, collage, photography, and sculpture. A trial and error approach is taken, and I often destroy work that lacks an intuitive click.
I was born into an eccentric family, raised in magical Upstate New York, homeschooled, and over-churched. Suffice it to say there was a pervading sense of being outside the mainstream. However, my imagination was fostered by all these influences, and so art was there for me from the beginning, both as a way to reflect on and withdraw from my environment.
My current home on a major route in Pennsylvania has given me many opportunities to collect: glass shards, tire scraps, animal remains and bits of clothing. By finding and placing these objects in the context of my work, I feel that I bring solid evidence to a connection with all life that is otherwise intangible.
