I am mainly a painter, though I often also work with found object sculpture, small sculpy figures, drawing, poetry, and performance art. My paintings are both abstract and figurative, usually on found surfaces with latex paint-
In my abstract paintings, I work in vivid colors, broad, active strokes, playful, organic, connective shapes. Colors tend to stay separate, for the most part, visiting one another in only streaks and small blended areas. The shapes in my work have very much the same types of relationships as the colors: reflecting and communicating with one another but each keeping their own unique presence in the piece.
In my figurative work, I focus on familiar subject matter caught in unusual moments. The emotional motivation of my figurative work ranges greatly but centers on some key subjects such as small, introspective life moments, family, history, pop culture, sexual exploration, death, religion, supernatural phenomena, conspiracy theories, and basic but visually dynamic portraiture.
I believe in the fluidity of ides and the organic relationships between process, artist, viewer, and subject.
