In 2007 at Pi art Gallery to Kansas City

French painter Nicolas Jonval ‘s work will be on exhibit at Pi gallery, Kansas City, MO, USA starting in January, 2007.

Loosely painted in bright colors, Jonval’s neo- expressionist style is deserving of a closer look. At once naive and complex, his figurative paintings contain multiple layers of visual expression. The viewer is immediately drawn to the color and composition then on closer inspection one is struck by the narrative aspect of each piece.

Jonval’s work has been exhibited throughout Southern France, Berlin, Switzerland and and the Netherlands. Pi gallery is proud to show his work for the first time in the USA.

Scratching, superimposing, mopping, inquiring, a sense of agitation maybe in the character himself too, not to mention all those colors bubbling out, and last but not least, what this artist is steeped in spontaneity.
Nicolas Jonval has some taste for research, no doubt. A research that creates surprise as he needs to be suprised, as much as to be surprising.
In his world, everything mingles, hits, and yet, in the core of matter, in the heart of color, with a line, a stroke, a gradation he molds a face, an eye, a cat. It is through the painting that revelation comes out.
Where on earth does he derive his inspiration from ? Very likely from speedy execution. Were he a musician, he would be a percussionist. As he’s a painter he turns out to be singular through the crashing of the peers he does appreciate : Dali, Matisse, Dubuffet, Basquiat, great men that make him feel as giddy as when he vivaciously covers up his canvas.
