Feelings and Imagination

Posted by Andy on 12/10/2005
I work intuitively and never really know what is going to happen until it does. Many of my paintings celebrate the inner child in color and form. Some people think my work is scarey. But I find the things that go bump in the night a lot of fun. You can't really be afraid of something you poke fun at.

Great stuff
This is great stuff, very expressive and primal. I was a bit surprised that you are a Catholic priest. That being said I have to figure out and state why...

First let me say I was raised Catholic, but haven't been to church in a while...a long while to be honest. The reason your art surprises me is that I associate Catholocism with rigid dogma, that would not exactly inspire a creative spirit outside the box. Yet clearly your art comes from a true outsider spirit, that is from the inside out, you have a clear window into your subconsious and are able to let it flow very eloquantly.

This is not what I'd expect from a priest- my stereotypical vision would be either very safe middle of the road attempts at "fine art" or inclusion of much Religious imagary or both.

Which brings me to the question do any of your conservative parishiners find your art inappropriate? The other question is do you intentionately avoid obvious Religious referances or is just something that you were never interested in painting?

At any rate, love your stuff, keep creating.
